Dear Students:
Our student lounge in Ketchum 322 is open and ready for your use! We hope this space will be a welcoming and comfortable place for you to relax, read and study in, and that it serves as your department home. You are welcome to use the lounge during business hours, but to ensure the space is welcoming for all students we ask that you be mindful of the following:
- The lounge will be open during department office hours, roughly 8:30-4:30. If the lounge is not open during these times, please see the secretaries on the second floor to open the space.
- As the weather allows it, please leave the windows of the lounge open to allow for extra ventilation.
- The department has provided additional cleaning materials (wipes, sanitizer spray, and hand sanitizer) for the lounge. Please make use of these. If the materials in the lounge need to be replenished, please let the department secretaries know.
- Please keep in mind that the lounge is next to classrooms and offices and should be treated accordingly. You are free to use this space to relax between classes, study, or get work done, but please be mindful of things like noise levels, etc. and use common sense measures (like personal headphones if you are listening to music, for example) to make sure the space is comfortable for everyone.
- Do not leave personal property in the lounge and do not leave personal electronic equipment unsupervised. We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal items.
- There is small coffee maker and fridge in the lounge for general use, but please clean up after yourselves and keep the space tidy.
- The books in the lounge are for student use. Please feel free to use/borrow the materials in the lounge. Consequently, please also be careful to not leave your own texts unsupervised in the lounge, so they do not get confused with the material that is available for general student use.
- Occasionally, we will leave food/snacks in the lounge for students, particularly if there is food left over after an event (stuff like cookies or pizza, etc). Please help yourself to this, but also understand we may not be able to keep snacks perpetually stocked.
- If you are using the microwave or the coffee maker, please make sure they are plugged into surge protectors. The wiring in the building is old and overloads easily. Everything should be plugged into the surge protectors.
- Please make sure to clean up after yourselves and keep the space in good order
If there are questions or concerns about the lounge, please bring them to the attention of the department by emailing english@buffalostate.edu.
